Briggs – Journalism Next: Chapter 1

Fairfax, VA — Mark Briggs, author of Journalism Next, begins the book with the very basics in using computers for journalism (or online journalism). As with any profession, there are a great number of tools one can use. Within the writing field, Briggs goes on about how tools such as RSS feeds and HTML are invaluable for aspiring journalists.

  • RSS, which stands for Real Simple Syndication, is becoming a popular addition to a journalist’s toolbox.

Here are a few steps on how to set up an RSS feed.

  1. Navigate to FeedBeater.com, type your website address into the “Enter URL Here” box and click the “Create” button.
  2. Click the “Get an RSS Feed” option on the next page. A new browser window or tab opens with a generated RSS link.
  3. Copy and paste the provided RSS link into your website for your readers to click and subscribe. You will have to manually edit the HTML source code for your site or blog. Place the link to the RSS feed in the header, sidebar or footer section of your site.
